Centralina Youth Celebrate National Youth Service Day

National Youth Service Day (NYSD) was held April 16-18, 2004. National Youth Service Day is held each year to support youth on a life-long path of service and civic engagement, and educates the public, the media and elected officials about the role of youth as community leaders.

Several Centralina Youth Organizations participated in the celebration. I-CARE, Inc., which serves youth in Iredell and Lincoln County, held awards banquets honoring teens and agencies that work with them. I-CARE, Inc. youth also donated Easter baskets to a local daycare. The community contributed by providing various Easter toys to go in the baskets. The baskets were distributed to the children on April 8, 2004.

Several agencies in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties, including Salisbury-Rowan Community Service Council, have events scheduled for May. Youth from these organizations plan to volunteer by helping senior adults learn to use the Internet. Mark your calendar now for next year's National Youth Service Day! It is scheduled for April 15-17, 2005. For more information about National Youth Service Day visit http://www.ysa.org/nysd/.
